Judy Bock - Recognized for Outstanding Historical Research on Lake Villa Intermediate (Palombi Middle School)
We are proud to recognize Judy Bock as the 2025 Citizen of the Year for Lake Villa Community Consolidated School District 41. This honor is bestowed in recognition of her exceptional contributions to preserving and sharing the rich educational legacy of Lake Villa Intermediate School, also known as LVI and Palombi Middle School.
A former educator with a deep passion for local history, Ms. Bock dedicated eight weeks to conducting comprehensive research on the school’s progressive origins. Her work traced the school’s development from its inception, detailing the rapid population growth in the Lindenhurst and Lake Villa communities that necessitated the construction of a new educational facility.
Through her captivating historical presentation, Ms. Bock guided the community through the early journey of the school — from classrooms that were located in various buildings within the community and the successful passing of a referendum, to the establishment of the school’s pioneering educational philosophy. She shed light on Palombi’s innovative teaching practices and unique architectural features, including open-space and pod classrooms, an atrium, skylights, and most notably, the introduction of the first revolving classrooms in the nation.
In collaboration with the Lake Villa Historical Society, Ms. Bock’s efforts brought renewed attention to this remarkable chapter in the district’s history, ensuring that its legacy is both celebrated and preserved for future generations.
It is with great admiration and gratitude that we honor Judy Bock for her unwavering dedication to Lake Villa District 41 and the Lake Villa Historical Society.
