Leader in Me Introduction
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As you most likely are aware, Palombi Middle School, along with the other schools in District 41, has embraced the implementation of the Leader in Me approach, based on principles embodied in Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The Leader in Me program empowers young people to make positive, effective, and responsible choices by introducing & reinforcing the 7 Habits, a set of leadership and life skills. During this school year, we will focus on developing an understanding of the 7 Habits, incorporating the language, skills, and strategies to our school and personal lives. Your child is embarking on an exciting journey and our hope is that you will ask your student how he/she is doing along the way. Having your student re-teach the content to you will give him/her an even deeper understanding and will give both of you an opportunity to learn together.
With this in mind, our goal is not to create additional work in your busy lives. Rather, we hope to help families and students enhance their lives. The day after students receive a lesson, the Family Learning Action Team will follow up with an email as well as a social media blast. We will post LEAD lesson conversation points to discuss at home, based on what habit was learned that day.
Our first point of family conversation is private victories versus public victories, connecting to the 7 Habits tree shared below and the impact of the 7 Habits on our daily lives. How can your family share some private and public victories? Please consider sharing you conversations and actions via our school Facebook page or simply use the following hashtags on social media: #LeaderInMe #7Habits #TheLancerWay.
Through the teachings of the 7 Habits, we will continue to foster positive relationships between teachers, students, parents, and other community members. With great enthusiasm, we celebrate the leader in you and in all of us.
