Dear Parent and/or Guardian:

In the past two weeks, Palombi students have been focused on taking the MAP/NWEA Math and Reading assessments. We are currently having students makeup tests and hope to review all of our data with staff next week. Once, we analyze the data, we will be sending home updated reports with your children. When this occurs, we will send you an email to let you know to unearth it from your child’s backpack.

Palombi celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day in school this past Monday. Please take a look at all of the great learning experiences your child had on this day on our new website: https://www.district41.org/

Finally, we have many student-led activities occurring during the year. One of those is the Bernie Book Drive. The drive is in progress and runs through January 31st! This worthy organization collects and distributes new and gently used children's books to underprivileged children in the Chicagoland area. Please send your donations to the school to help us reach our school-wide goal of 1,500 books. Thank you for your contributions!

Notes from the Office

April 4th - Election Day - ELearning Day Lake Villa School District 41 was identified as a polling site by the Lake County Clerk’s Office for the April 4th, 2023 elections.  Because we cannot secure our buildings from the general public, the district will be shifting to an e-Learning Day on April 4th.  Your child’s school will share your child’s e-Learning schedule for the day.   We apologize for the inconvenience, but we want to ensure everyone’s safety.

Student Supplies Please check your student supplies and replenish any pencils, pens, notebooks, etc. if your child is out of supplies.

MIDTERMS Several weeks from now, we will be at the mid-term of the second trimester. Please check your child’s grades on PowerSchool. If you don’t have access to PowerSchool, please call our office for assistance.

Cell Phone Reminder Please remember that cell phones at school are to be locked away in lockers. Any phone out at any point during the school day will be brought down to the office. If a parent texts or phones their student, they shouldn’t expect a response as it would violate our rule. If there is an emergency, a parent can call the office and we can accommodate a call in our office.

Activities
Leader in Me Focus

Winter is upon us, and the Palombi staff is working on decreasing conflict with classmates.  The Leader in Me Focus strategy this month is “Think Win-Win”.  In simple terms, if you have one cookie and there are two of you who want it, split it in the middle and you each get a half; you each come out of the situation with a win.  It is the art of compromise, which can be difficult for all of us, including adults!

As a parent, you have to take a stand often; not everything is negotiable. The  Parent's Guide- Leader in Me on page 10 has some suggestions on the strategy of “Think Win-Win” for guardians of teens.  Here’s one great suggestion:

If you have a conflict with your child, say over chores, feeding the dog, or doing dishes - (and who doesn’t from time to time?) think of a way that you can both compromise and both win. Write it down so neither of you forgets. Make sure you talk about it and both agree that you have a solution that will work for both of you.
